Favorite placement: Innovative Teaching Grants co-chair Favorite spare time activity: Reading and cooking How many years have you been active? Why do you continue your membership in JLM? This is my fourth year as an active in the JLM. I the youngest person on the board this year which goes to show that you don't have to have been in the league for years to be a leader. I continue my membership because I believe the. In this issue you will find an invitation to an 'Open Forum'. This open discussion event is intended to bring members together to discuss the future direction of Rogaining in NSW. A range of factors including the 'insurance crisis', growth in popularity of endurance events often privately run ; which have a Rogaine-type component to them, and access to suitable land for Rogaining, to name just a few, will impact to a greater or lesser degree on the sport. That these factors may be largely beyond our control does not mean that we can't plan our response. Other issues facing the Association, over which we do have control include: Event types: What type and length of events do members most enjoy, and what will they participate in? How many events should we be running in the year, and how far away from Sydney should events be set? Should we be trying more events with different formats, such as the 15 in 24 hour Ecogaine, or the old `Upside Down' 12 hour? Event Price Structure: Rogaining must be one of the best value outdoor and family activities around. The NSW Champs is going to cost pp up to a maximum of 0 for a family, and this for a weekend with most meals included. Compared to a round of golf, dinner and the movies, or at the extreme ; downhill skiing, Rogaining offers very affordable recreation. However, the traditional approach of the Association has also meant a fairly hand-to-mouth existence. Do we want, or need, a permanent equipment store we cannot find anybody who wants to look after the trailer ; ? Should we be planning for the replacement of the trailer few people have vehicles large enough to safely tow it ; or, as some states do, hire vehicles for each event? Do we want need computer equipment such as laptops for pre-event and event use? These sorts of future planning issues are very difficult to achieve when the budget is always tight. But do we want or need to increase fees in order to be able to do these things? Volunteer Base: This old chestnut won't go away in a voluntary association which organises such enormous events. The sheer size of the task of organising a Fogaine means there is a lot of work for a lot of people. Having been a novice Rogainer, and now a member of the Committee, I feel that there is a polarity of views within the organisation. On the one hand, your average Rogainer has a perception of the Committee as elite, remote, purist and selective about who is chosen to participate. As a Committee member, I see us struggle to put on events, the continuous shortage of 'new blood' means that the same old hands go up to organise events. There does not seem to be a reliable process for encouraging new volunteers, or for developing their skills. Whether we can attract a regular and reliable volunteer base is critical for our future. In our current situation, the 'retirement' or relocation out of NSW of half a dozen dedicated members could severely test the Association's ability to continue running the regular calendar of events. I have mentioned a range of issues that come to my mind when the future of Rogaining is discussed. This is NOT an exhaustive list, nor is it the Open Forum agenda. I do hope it provokes thought and discussion about how you want YOUR Association run, where it is headed and what you can do to contribute to it. I also look forward to participating with you at the Forum. See you there! It was not until discovery of the hepatitis B virus HBV ; in 1965 that more pieces began to fall into place. Evidence soon emerged of an association between chronic liver disease, HCC, and seropositivity for hepatitis B surface antigen originally referred to as the "Australia Antigen" ; . Furthermore, Beasley and colleagues4 working in Taiwan demonstrated in a prospective controlled trial involving 22, 000 men that HBsAg positivity was a very strong risk factor for HCC. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, investigators in Japan came to recognize a steady and disturbing rise in the incidence of HCC cases not related to HBV infection.5 Most of these cases were subsequently found to be associated with infection by the hepatitis C virus HCV ; , which emerged in the Japanese population in the years after World War II. Japanese investigators were also among the first to recognize that HCV-related HCC often took 2 to 3 decades to develop.6 They observed that patients who developed posttransfusion hepatitis C went through stages of acute, mild, moderate, and then severe chronic hepatitis, leading to cirrhosis and eventually HCC. Now, nearly 10 years later, the incidence of HCC is rising in the United States and western Europe.7, 8 It has been speculated that the peak in cases of HCC is occurring later in the West than in Japan because the spread of HCV occurred about 10 years later, with increased use of injection drugs in the 1960s. What is Men's Eogaine Foam? Roggaine Foam is a white foam containing 5% minoxidil for use only on the scalp to help regrow hair in men. Who may use Men's Rogain4 Foam? Rogaime Foam is for use only by men. Rogaine Foam may be appropriate for you if you are a male at least 18 years old and experiencing gradually thinning hair or gradual hair loss on the top of the scalp vertex only, as shown on the next page ; . It is not intended for frontal baldness or a receding hairline. The common inherited thinning or hair loss process begins slowly and may become noticeable only after years of gradual loss. Rogaine Foam is for men with hair loss or thinning hair that begins on the vertex of the scalp. Rogaine Foam is more likely to regrow hair in men with hair loss in the range shown on the next page. If men have more hair loss than shown, Rogaine Foam may not work. 12-hour Event, by Christine Ritchie We arrived in Cortland, a few miles from the start area, the night before. After a hearty breakfast we headed to Base Camp where we checked in and M&D pitched their tent. M&I would be heading back to the motel at midnight - showers! A pleasant surprise, the registration fee included unlimited food & drink, available round the clock until after lunch the next day. Following the mandatory pre-race meeting where we were warned of multiple disqualifying behaviors and advised to be careful about illegal trespassing, we picked up our map and got some route advice from M&D. Mass start at noon and we were off! The teams soon dispersed to the four winds and we only met folk occasionally. The orienteering wasn't terribly difficult and Marilee got us sorted out the few times there were questions. The 1: 30000 scale took a bit getting used to. Beautiful sunny 70-degree weather. Lovely green scenery. We hiked on roads and trails, through overgrown fields and forest, around ripe! ; raspberry patches, up and down hills and ski runs. The daypack got steadily lighter as the water was drunk. We kept up a steady pace, stopping a few times for a bite to eat, to put on more insect repellent, to change socks, and to get out flashlights headlamps. Highlights for me were a midday secluded peaceful pond, whose surface was covered with gigantic dragonflies, the raspberries!, and an owl silently gliding across a ski run later that night. Teammate choice can be a large factor in your overall enjoyment of such an event and Marilee was great. To see how we did or for more information on rogaines, you can visit the North American Rogaine Calendar web page: : flora eeb.uconn rogaine calendar 24-hour Event, By Dave Levine It turned out to be much more of a ROADgaine than anticipated. The result was that we covered a lot of distance and made only three mistakes of note. The first was in a very confusing area a few kilometers north of Dominie's house. The second was in the dark when we thought that the finger lakes trail had turned north prematurely. We did 300 meters in the stream more slowly and unnecessarily than we should. The third was letting new construction bother us early in the morning. Total time wasted including other bobbles ; : 45 minutes. According to my thread measurement yesterday, we covered 67.2 km. I didn't measure road time, but I would guess that 2 3 of that was on at least some road including the dirt roads above Greek Peak ; . Probably 1 3 was on paved highways as getting to the east of the interstate was a "pain". We came in fifth in the men's division, but that's an error. The Good's beat us by getting one more control on Day 2. We weren't feeling so good, so started out for the high point ones. They substituted 26 and 37 for our 51 and should have beaten us by 12. Assuming that they don't have a punching error, we lost, but they were ranked seventh. In retrospect, we probably could have gotten #26. It was only "Big blister on left foot oozes orangish-yellow. Medium blisan additional 300 meters, but ter on right foot oozes chartreuse. Left quad has tingled for the area was groddy and it 48 hours muscle is swollen ; Right ankle still not completely was late, etc. So, we are in weight-bearing. We had fun." sixth in the open. Two mas- Dave Levine ters teams and one coed team the Leonards ; also beat us. Vlad and Joe Brautigam won. Glen Brake and Clint Morse came in second. Two French Canadians got the most points, but misunderstood the late penalty and lost second to Glen and Clint when they took a 256 point hit! If they'd taken 21 seconds more, we'd have beaten them! The orienteering was generally quite simple; the weather was great; the drive home sucked. All these drugs, like dmt, are inactive orally and must be smoked or injected and vermox.

Rogaine ointmentRogaine alcoholPatients may report hair growth subjectively, or the prescribing doctor can use the HamiltonNorwood scale to give an objective view. Hair counts or weight analysis can also document therapeutic results.[37] Statistically significant increases in hair counts may not be clinically significant if the hairs regrown remain tiny, short, and vellus. The newest method involves computer-generated models and a density scale developed by Savin.[46] Hair density is determined by centrally parting the hair and classifying men into one of eight densities. This system also includes hair loss patterns of frontal, mid, and vertex areas of the scalp. With over 100, 000 possible combinations, it allows the physician to categorize the patient very specifically, and follow any therapeutic improvements from a baseline. A similar scale is given as a package insert with Rogaine Extra Strength for Men to help men monitor their hair regrowth and amantadine. At a social occasion last week, when I was expounding to a friend the delights of rogaining, she asked what was the best rogaine I have done and why. I found this difficult to answer because it is like asking someone who has travelled or moved around a lot what place they liked the most; it depends on what you do and what opportunities you make of the occasion or the place. However, having said that, 15 hour rogaines are definitely a favourite of mine as they allow a considerable time for rogaining, a good night's sleep and some socialisation time. On many occasions, whilst sitting around after a rogaine we say what a great area surrounds us, little did we know of this area before the rogaine and we must come back and investigate the historical points of interest and to explore the bush at a more leisurely pace. This I was able to do after the Aus champs in the Flinders Ranges last year and I thoroughly recommend it. So when we made the decision that the March event had to be transferred to the long weekend it opened up several opportunities that do not normally exist unless you are lucky enough to have Mondays off ; . So after the March event take the time, don't rush back to Melbourne on Sunday. Stay around in this interesting area nearDunolly, enjoy the company of other rogainers on the Sunday and do some exploring on the Monday. If you want to add some structure to your exploring you could pick up some checkpoints. I cannot end this piece without saying a huge `thank you' to all the committee members. I could not help thinking at our committee meeting last Thursday that although there have been a few glitches already this year they have been solved quickly and painlessly. I holding firmly onto my wooden desk as I say this. ; Margie with Ainslie's help has done a superb job putting together the commemorative newsletter for Nigel. Most of this work was done over the busy Xmas and January holiday period when most of us were doing other things and not thinking "rogaining". I know Margie found it very difficult to cut the huge number of contributions down to what eventually appeared in the newsletter. I hope that the contributors of these writings gained much pleasure in reliving and sharing their experiences and memories of Nigel. Ainslie, in addition to helping with Nigel's commemorative newsletter, and finding more volunteers for the March event, also produced another very professional rogaining calendar. I think more people should retire!!! Happy rogaining and I hope you enjoy the experience of having a Monday off after a rogaine. Cheers Di.
